In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash by Jean Shepherd
Take a nostalgic and comical trip back to Ralphie's childhood (as he remembers it), growing up in a small
Indiana town during the depression. When an adult Ralph visits his childhood buddy Flick, they reminisce over milestone events
such as: the dago bomb that struck back, the great gravy boat riot, Wilbur Duckworth and his magic baton... and of course the Official Red Ryder Carbine Action Air Rifle BB Gun! All told
with the same satiric humor found in the "Christmas Story" movie, which was based on this book.

Reader Reviews:
Sharon (January 2002)This was a nice light read. It is funny and nostalgic. I have to compare it to the movie, which was a little more lighthearted. The book
has a little heavier undertones from the adult Ralph, with references to his service in the war and some older dating memories. Although it is not labelled as such, it is really a series of short stories, with each chapter being somewhat 'self-enclosed',
making it a great book to read during a busy time like the holiday season, when you just don't have alot of time to sit and get involved in a heavy plot.
