by Lynn Truss.
What a riot, no wonder it is a best seller, we all love to break the rules, but we want to know what the rules are. By now you may have heard of the grocer’s apostrophe, but you need to know about the Oxford comma, and the Interobang! I must admit I dozed off a bit on the chapter about parentheses (too much information..) but overall, very well done, very entertaining. Recommend you buy this book. You’ll want to use it as a reference.
However it could turn you into a real “stickler” as she warns, I found myself editing everything I wrote or read; should fish fly have a hyphen, or is it one word? Especially liked her description of comma battle between James Thurber and Harold Ross; “Thurber saw commas as so many upturned office chairs unhelpfully hurled down the wide-open corridor of readability.”

Hi, new to the site. I just finished "Eats, Shoots and Leaves" and I loved it. Of course friends and family have always thought I'm a bit pedantic on spelling, usage and punctuation. I guess that comes from being raised by a mother who would have liked nothing better than to have been an English or Literature teacher.
If you liked this you might also like "The Mother Tongue" by Bill Bryson. It's about the development of the English language from over the past couple of millenia. Like Lynn Truss he really knows how to turn a phrase.

It's a good thing the book under discussion concerns punctuation rather than spelling.
Lynne Truss's first name is spelt with an "e", as can be clearly seen on the front cover shot. :)
