I read only 1/2 of it. While the scenery depictions were wonderful, and the narrative
about the man discovering his past inability to understand grief, I didn't care for the book.
I do understand she is very popular author. But not my cup of tea. I felt it was formulaic.

She is an absolute favorite of mine. A favorite of hers I can read over and over is "Coming Home." Takes place in England during
WWII.

You should have finished reading the book. It
was a good read with interesting twists and turns. The last chapter was good and it lends
itself to a sequel. I hope someday that one is
written.

I in fact really enjoyed this book so much so that l went and bought a first copy hardback.
The only thing that l found disappointing about Winter Solstice was that it has been sold to a film company and they made a film for 'TV' which except for the names it was hard to recognise any conection with the book. In fact if l had seen the film first l would not have read the book

The wonderful thing about Pilcher's books are that tshe takes ordinary situations and people and makes you care about the characters. they become endearing and complex. So when the normal things in life happen to them you really care. I can't get through a Pilcher book without some tears. SEPTEMBER is another one of her books that tops the charts. If you enjoy her writing you will love Marcia Willet who is a similar writer from the UK.
