Shopaholic takes the cake!

I recently read the third installment of the "Shopaholic" series. It is great, one of my favorite book series of all times. But like "Bridget Jones's Diary" who I think they did a wonderful casting call on Renee Zellweger I can't help but wonder WHO would play the lead character in the "Shopaholic" series? I actually pondered this and realized I couldn't think of anyone! Maybe Ashley Judd? Has anyone else read these books and wondered the same?

Re: Shopaholic takes the cake!

Adrienne, I have only just recently read Shopoholic Takes Manhattan and while I did not like this story I still like to think who could play who if it were to become a film. I think Ashley might be too old already but I do like her and she is a beauty. I was thinking it would almost have to be someone from the younger set like Alisia Silverstone or Reese Witherspoon might pull it off. I am not sure who would play the guy but do like the guy on the show Keen Eddie but he might be too old. Well it is fun to think about!

I have a website called Shopaholic News! (www.shopaholicnews.tk) with all the information I've found about the movie and books on the web. It also has a section where you can vote for your favorite actors/actresses to play the characters in the movie. I'll add Ashley Judd! :)

Re: Shopaholic takes the cake!

I've read 3 of the shopaholic books and I have recently started reading Shopaholic & Sister, (VERY EXCITED)!!! I think the best leading roll would be Kate Hudson, which I heard she is playing for the role in the movie Can You Keep A Secret? by Sophie. I"m soo excited, I'm from Canada and I LOVE her writing and the characters!!! It's a Great book!!!

I don't think Ashley Judd would fit the part of Rebecca.

Re: Shopaholic takes the cake!

Kate Hudson hands down...think as long as she can pull off the accent...she would be PERFECT!!

Re: Shopaholic takes the cake!

I have to say I love Sophie Kinsella’s books and would love them to become movies. I would think Kate Beckinsale for Rebecca and Kate Hudson for Emma. But what I really want to know, is who is going to be dreamy enough and have the right amount of wit to play Luke Brandon, or Jack???

Shopaholic takes the cake!

I know the PERFECT couple to play Luke and Becky for the Shopaholic movies! The perfect Becky would be Rachel McAdams (The Notebook) and the perfect Luke would be Josh Lucas (Sweet Home Alabama).

Re: Shopaholic takes the cake!

I just finished reading Shopaholic and Sister and LOVED IT!! I do hope a movie comes out and I think that Rachel McAdams would make a perfect Becky! I have often thought about who would play Luke and I still don't know who would be perfect! I just hope the movie does the book justice. Oh does anybody know if there is gonna be a fifth book??

Re: Shopaholic takes the cake!

I know the perfect guy to play Luke, his name is James Scott, he was in the soap All My Children.
here's a pic of him:

Re: Shopaholic takes the cake!

I think they should choose a British cast for the movie version of Shopaholic. Also, perhaps not a very well known one. I think a perfect choice for Luke would be Jack Davenport (the Commodore in Pirates of the Caribbean and the groom in The Wedding Date). For Becky, I pick Isla Fisher (crazy girl in Wedding Crashers, she is Scottish) or perhaps Keira Knightly if a more famous actress is required. I haven't thought too much about the other characters but these two would be the most important to choose first.

Re: Shopaholic takes the cake!

Er..I think I would be best to play Emma, but if I had to choose someone more famous, I suppose it would have to be either Kiera Knightly or Kate Beckensale.

The perfect Luke

I can't help thinking about who would be the perfect actress/actor for this movie. I haven't fought of a perfect Becky, but in my mind she's definetely not brunette or older like Ashley Judd. Kate Hudson would be ok, but Emma Corrigan fits her perfectly! However, I have always pictured Luke as Jerry O'Connell (from Crossing Jordan), though I know he's got bright eyes, but that can be arranged !!!!
I also thought about Jack Harper, who must be someone charming and older, like Gerge Clooney or someone like him.
Fingers crossed!!!!!

Re: Shopaholic takes the cake!

I think either Jerry O'Connell or James Scott would be perfect for Luke. And for Becky, I think Reese Witherspoon would be fantastic, I mean, look at how well she did Elle in Leagaly Blonde. I think that if Reese did do it, she would have to have longer bunette hair. I also think Kate Beckinsale would be perfect. She looks just like how I think Becky should look. Or Rachel Adams, she would be amazing too.

Re: Shopaholic takes the cake!

I'm not sure about who could play Becky, but I think Hugh Grant would be perfect for Luke.

REESE WITHERSPOON 4 BECKY

Re: Shopaholic takes the cake!

I completely agree with Jack Davenport as Luke. He's who I pictured right away as I read them. Not sure who should play Becky. I'm inclined towards an English cast, unless someone could very convincingly pull of the accent like Bridget Jones' Diary. I'd really hate if all the main cast was Americans with terrible accents.

by Sarah on Monday February 26, @03:08PM

Re: Shopaholic takes the cake!

It has to be Jude Law to play Luke, and Kiera Knightley to play Becky. I could also see Kate Beckinsdale but she doesn't really have the impish look of Kiera.

Re: Shopaholic takes the cake!

Everyone keeps naming all these famous stars but I don't think they should cast someone very famous because it will be hard to see becky in those peopel because of all the prior characters they have played in other movies and becky isn't like elle in legally blonde and she shouldn't be categorized as someone that already has a movie about them - for luke brandon james scott looks like i imagined him but is he a good actor? also becky i thought she was a brunette from the book - i don't know who i would exactly see as her but not come big shot hollywood actress and same with luke i picture him as masculine and somewhat serious looking but realli good look with dark hair

Re: Shopaholic takes the cake!

PATRICK DEMPSEY FOR JACKKK!!!!!!!!!!
CLIVE OWEN FOR LUKE!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Shopaholic takes the cake!

well for this movie becky cannot be a red head because in the last book shopaholic and baby there was a shirt saying "she is a red haired bitch and I hate her" she wore it cause she hated this other girl dont wanna spoil anyones moment if u havent read that book yet.

and for actors its hard to think bout who i dont like kate hudson too much and reese witherspoon... maybe but it has to be someone else more talented someone funny in the books it mostly has comedy in it. I only liked the first book to tell you the truth the others i bought and read but shopaholic the book is a classic i would love to see the movie

Re: Shopaholic takes the cake!

to ingrid i think ur wrong reese witherspoon is a great actor I would watch her
and also kate beckinsale would be great but she is more like a serius actor then a funny one
anyways whoever said hugh grant he is wayyyyy 2 old.for luke thats a hard one it gotta be someone real handsome and sexy!

by lora on Sunday July 15, @06:39AM

Re: Shopaholic takes the cake!

by the way - Isla Fisher is Australian......

I think Rupert Penry-Jones for Luke (star of British Spy Drama Series SPOOKS) and an English actress for Becky - but can't think of the perfect one - not Kate Beckinsale though.....

by Andrea on Friday July 20, @12:04PM

Re: Shopaholic takes the cake!

Firstly, the cast HAS to be British. It's set in England and written by a British author. If the cast are American then they have to be able to do good English accents (thinking of Renee Zelwegger in 'Bridget Jones' and Gwyneth Paltrow in 'Emma').

Luke needs to be tall, strong, slightly aloof and sexy, but not too overtly. Hugh Grant is too much of a rogue. Plus he's old and far too foppish. Luke needs to be quietly confident. He's a powerful businessman so no pretty boys or beefcakes allowed (sorry Jude Law). Max age is probably 35. Rupert Penry-Jones would be PERFECT!

Becky is supposed to have just finished university a couple of years ago (in the first book), so mid-twenties max. She has to be pretty, but not drop-dead-gorgeous. She's full of insecurities, so somebody who appears really confident or beautiful just won't work. Suze, the flatmate, is the really pretty one. We need Kate Winslet 10 years ago...

Andrea is right. Isla Fisher is AUSTRALIAN!!!

Re: Shopaholic takes the cake!

I'd like to see Chyler Leigh or Jessica Alba as Becky. Ashley Judd looks quite intelligent for this role. I don't think that Chyler and Jessica look not smart but they are younger and personally I think that they can deal with this role very well.
P.S. And I think Rachel McAdams would take this role as well.

Isla Fisher would be a great Becky!!! Shes the right age, and fresh face who hasn't been in similar roles (ie Reese Witherspoon in legally Blonde, or Kate Hudson in How to lose a guy in 10 days)

Shopaholic takes the cake!

I would love to see either the following actors for Becky, Luke and others :

Luke:
- Josh Duhamel is 32, sexy and would be perfect for this film

Becky:
- Chyler Leigh would be great
- Jessica Alba also comes to mind
- Martine McCutcheon is gorgeous and stared in Eastenders; a show mentioned in the books.
-Keira Knightly but with longer hair

Tarquin:
- Orlando Bloom

Becky's Mum:
- Diane Keaton

Becky's Dad:
- Robert De Niro
- Dustin Hoffman

Luke's Mum:
- Meryl Streep

Suze:
- Emily Blunt

Post some more Actors. This may have an effect on the film

I think that Lauren Graham ( Gilmore Girls), Reese Witherspoon or Rachel McAdams would be GREAT in this role.

I think that Luke could be played by Dermot Mulroney and he would be AMAZING!

I CAN'T WAIT for the movie!!!

I really think Jude Law would be perfect for Luke Brandon, and I was thinking Ilsa Fisher for Ventetia in the last book, but for Becky, I was also thinking Lauren Graham from Gilmore Girls!

Re: Shopaholic takes the cake!

In the Shopoholic books, Becky does comapre herself to Catherine Zeta Jones a couple of times.. i.e she could be her stunt double and also at another point.. so whoever plays her, would have to have dark hair... so kate hudson wouldnt really fit the bill. x

I have the entire collection of sophie kinsella books and they are totally fab...cant wait to watch the film. finished reading shopaholic and baby..was sad there was nothing left to read but then found out new book was released. 'Remember Me' Happy Reading...

Re: Shopaholic takes the cake!

Orlando bloom could not play Tarquin! Orlando is too cute, tarquin has to be quite geeky, like Ray Coulthard. I think Isla fisher would be perfect as Becky. but if it had to be a British actress then i would say Emma Pierson from English drama Hotel Babylon.

i think that Michael Vartan could play Luke
