Love is patient, love is kind.
Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not proud.
Love is not rude, is not selfish, and does not become angry easily.
Love does not remember wrongs done against it.
Love is not happy with evil, but is happy with truth.
Love bears all things, believes all things,
hopes all things, endures all things.

OMG okay well first of all i totally love this poem....i cried when i heard it....!!! its seriously like really sad!...okay well iono the exact poem from the movie but here is the quote from the bible!...its basically the same but there are some extra things added and stuff like that!..
Love is patient, love is kind.
It is not jealous, love is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with truth.
Love never fails. If there are prophecies, they will be brought to nothing; if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing. For we know partially and we prophesy partially, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. When I was a child, I used to talk as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I put aside childish things.
At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face. At present I know partially; then I shall know fully as I am fully known. So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love...... corinthians 13:4-13

This is one of my favorite movies. I think that Shane west is realy hot in the movie. Every time I watch it I cry. The poen from the movie/book is one of my favorites. when this movie came out all my friends and I were trying to see who could memorize the poem first. We were also fighting over Shane West.If you haven't seen A Walk To Remember, i definently recomend it.

the poem is from 1 Corinthians 13. it is different in the Bible because of the way they wrote back then. The King James version is even more different. You could check in a Bible that may translate it better.

the poem that landon started reading to jamie in the hospital is the same one that her father read at the wedding you just have to take off the last two sentences from that one.

| The complete poem
1 Corinthians 13
The Greatest Gift
1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned,[a] but have not love, it profits me nothing.
4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.
11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.
13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

| Re: Poem from Walk to Remember
This is a passage from the Bible, God's holy word. It is no cheap ripoff; it is available to everyone. The copies vary a bit because there are different versions, or translations, of the Bible. One of these versions, the most common on this thread is NIV (new international version). The exact version used in the movie sounds beautiful, but they each hold the true meaning: the meaning of love.
another verse you should look up is John 3:16. I think it is the most important verse in the Bible. A third to look for is Isaiah 53:6. The first numbers are the chapters. The numbers after the colon are the verse numbers.

why dont you all stop arguing about weather it is a poem a scripture or a passage from the bible the whole point you are all trying to make is that it is a beautiful beautiful piece of writing..and im guessing it has touched alot of people
who cares if it was in the movie and thats where people saw it..who cares if they didn't read it in the bible not everyone in this world is a cristian the main point is that by this poem, scripture or passage whatever you want to call it was shown to more people and more people have not gotten to experience it
so settle down and enjoy it.

i found this it is as close to the original as i could find
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels and have
not love,
I am become as sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal.
And though I have the gift of prophecy and understand all mysteries
and all knowledge,
and though I have all faith so that I could remove mountains and

And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor,
and though I give my body to be burned and have not love,
it profith me nothing.
Love suffereth long and is kind.
Love envieth not.
Love vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, doeth not behave itself
unseemly.
Seeketh not her own.
Is not easily provoked.
Thinketh no evil.
Rejoiceth not in inequity, but rejoiceth in the truth.
Bareth all things.
Believeth all things.
Hopeth all things.
Endureth all things.
Love never fails.
But where there be propheses they shall fail,
whether there be tounges, they shall cease,
whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
For we know in part, and we prophesy in part,
but when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part
shall be done away.
When I was a child I spake as a child,
I understood as a child, I fought as a child,
but when I became a man I put away childish things.
For now we see though a glass dark plain, but then face to
face.
Now I know in part, but then shall I know even also as I am
known.
And now abideth faith, hope, love - these three, but the greatest
of these is love
i hope it helps.

| Re: Poem from Walk to Remember
The poem from Corinthians is a beautiful one. It is better in translation than in the original Greek, or Koine, I believe. In older Bibles, the word for love is translated charity. Then, the poem speaks of faith, hope, and charity rather than faith, hope, and love. That may be closer to the intent of the writer, since Greek has several words for love: agape, meaning self giving love; eros, meaning love with a sexual content; and, I believe, philos, meaning brotherly love. Agape, I believe, is the word translated to love in one instance and to charity in another. It has little connotation in the Greek of romantic love.
But whatever its derivation, the poem as we have it is one of our most beatiful--and romantic.

| Re: Poem from Walk to Remember
i think it's utterly ludicrous calling it a poem, it's a verse, and a holy one at that,l probably one that none of you people actually live by anyway to be fair. the whole point was shewas a firm believer in god and a devout christian, this is why she had a VERSE read out at her wedding rather than some old POEM lol

This is a beautiful passage from the Holy Bible. I can understand why some might think it's a poem, but it's a verse. Regardless of whether you believe in God or not, you can't change the fact that the original is found in the Holy Bible. And there are several versions of the Bible, so each person might be posting something a little different.

Love is always patient and kind. It is never jealous. Love is never boastful or conceited. It is never rude or selfish. It does not take offence and is not resentful. Love takes no pleasures in other people's sins, but delights in the truth. It is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope, and to endure whatever comes.

| Re: Poem from Walk to Remember
Some call this a verse, and others a poem the fact that it is in the bible does not negate the fact that it is a poem, that is like saying Shakespeare's writing isn't poetry, and it most definately is. Despite what you may say, it is poetry, if you do not think so, than read this definition of a poem
A verbal composition designed to convey experiences, ideas, or emotions in a vivid and imaginative way, characterized by the use of language chosen for its sound and suggestive power and by the use of literary techniques such as meter, metaphor, and rhyme.
2. A composition in verse rather than in prose.
3. A literary composition written with an intensity or beauty of language more characteristic of poetry than of prose.
4. A creation, object, or experience having beauty suggestive of poetry.
This is most definately a poem, and that can't be negated.

Octocrit, you posted the most intelligent response on here. It's funny, we were discussing in church how so many people misinterpret the different meanings in the Bible of the word "love", how it has so many different connotations and was translated so many different ways. I really enjoyed reading your response. I have the KJV which uses the word "charity" but for some reason I always enjoyed the NIV version better with the word "love", even though it's not entirely accurate.

| Re: Poem from Walk to Remember
Two comments:
I really do love the movie - and the 'poem' quoted during the wedding. Do you notice that movies today rip off movies and books from years ago - and even Shakespear (and others) ripped off stories from years before them. The bible does the same thing.
'The Bible' - is just 'a bible' - there are lots of them. Don't be so freaking quick to judge others - a few thousand years ago people didn't understand science and made up stories to tell their children about where they came from - get a grip it's all a story - there may be some truth to any story - that's what makes them good stories - but don't freak out if I don't worship the blue rocks like you do - there's nothing wrong with green rocks - all religions are superstions - get over it.
Life is what it is - and when it's gone - so are you.

| Re: Poem from Walk to Remember
I just wanted to remind everyone... it was said in a Christian church setting. When weddings happen in a Christian church, bible verses are used. This "poem" is a bible verse. The reverend is reading from a bible. You can call it whatever you want, but remember the man is playing a reverend so of course he's going to read from a bible during a wedding ceremony... like reverends in real life do. Watch the movie and you will see it’s a bible he is reading from! It doesn’t matter what religion you are, even if you don’t have one, it matters what the characters were in the movie…

GOD = LOVE and without LOVE, you can not accomplish anything. He has inspired this scripture in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NIV)
4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8,13
To those of you who have rebutted all those who think that this is a poem, and are riteously telling everyone that it is a passage from the Bible, you are of course correct. However, I venture to disagree somewhat with you. Yes, it is a Bible passage, but it is also a poem. The Bible is a work of art, containing miraculous tales, inspirational quotes, thought-provoking analogies, life-saving promises and breath-takingly beautiful poetry. This passage is certainly a poem, but not just a cute little love poem to be recited to your latest boyfriend/girlfriend. It definitely should be applied to human love, but I believe it is referring to a greater love, something far more powerful and wonderful than we can ever hope to understand. We all know that humans are nowhere near perfect, and we can't possibly be all the things this poem says all the time - we can only try. But God can be like this, and he is, and always will be.
It's no small or cliche thing to say that Jesus loves you - because he truly does, with a love that far surpasses all human understanding.
