Synopsis: Reality and mythology are craftily interwoven in this novel by C.S. Lewis.
In it, the ancient story of Cupid and Psyche is retold to us by Orual, Psyche's sister. Orual is brought up in ancient Glome,
where many gods are worshipped, and many sacrifices are required by the gods. Her teacher is an educated Greek slave, who teaches
her to be doubtful of her religion and to rely on logic and reason for her beliefs. When the local priest declares that the sacrifice of
her beloved sister, Psyche, is required to appease the goddess Ungit and restore prosperity to their kingdom, Orual is forced to acknowledge
the duality of her beliefs... and to choose between them. The consequences of her choice will change the lives of her and her sister forever.
