Re: Howto make a AC97 (VIA VT82C686A) working?

First, all my postings at Chucktips are essentially limited to FreeBSD and has nothing to do with DOS/Windows Operating systems.

As for your question about the sound card, you have to install the relevent drivers from the CD which usally comes with the system (check your user manual ). You have to install the drivers after intalling dos/windows. Also, make sure you install the right driver, the README files on the CD should give you the details.

Good Luck !

Hi there I have the same problem with my sound card. I reformatted my system over Christmas (Win98SE) and now my sound card won't work. Have downloaded the relevant driver and still nothing.

There wasn't anything for my soudn card on the CD that came with the computer, have looked several times!!

My PC says that its all working properly and theres no problem, but when I got to Control Panel, Multimedia, I can't choose an audio device and so can't hear anything.

Help me - I miss my sound!

    Thanks,
    Helen

Had the same problem. I went to to System in the Control Panel and deleted AC97 driver. Then I went back and had the system autodetect. It asked for the driver, rebooted, and then everything started working. Hope this helps. I had tried everything up to that point.

Can you tell me exactly how you got into the wizard that has the system autodetect for drivers?
Explaining my problem: I selected to uninstall the driver then my puter froze up! The driver is gone & I have no idea how to get into the driver search wizard now & my Avance AC97 sound Driver's gone! HELP
