In the article I it showed this:
In your rc.conf add these lines:

gateway_enable="YES"
ipnat_enable="YES"

I have also added this:
ipnat_rules="/etc/ipnat.rules"

I hope that helps. I am not sure if this is different for the 5.x series as I wrote this for the 4.x series. If you have any more items to point out please do so.
