Breaking through a Firewall
Security and Firewalls Posted by Charlie on Monday October 13, @11:40AM
from the dept.
I am at a university and I can't download any music through Kazaa or LimeWire or anything because of the firewall. Also, I can't seem to log onto a Fantasy Basketball online draft by yahoo.com because of the firewall. Thanks

Time and time again people ask the "firewall" question. The simple fact is that if it's not 'your' firewall then it's designed to keep you either in or out. If it's a descent firewall then that's exactly what it's going to do and no one here can help you. Sorry.

The fact of the matter is that firewalls are made to keep people out. They are lousey at keeping people in. If you have control over a machine outside the firewall network, you can set up port forwarding on any port via ssh, and make it look like you're surfing the web, even if what you're really doing is something completely different. A quick google, "ssh tunnel howto" turned up a url that might help you. - eric
