TIP: Clear the screen when you logout

If you would like FreeBSD to automatically clear the screen when you logout as root, create a .logout (dot logout) file in your home directory and add the command clear to it.

I tried this tip, but clear does not actually clear anything. It just hides it one screen up. Press scroll lock, and page up, and you can see it all still. This means that any user can see my console history. 6.2 stable.
