TIP: Disk Usage Command
Miscellaneous Posted by Jason on Thursday May 03, @09:03PM

If you would like to know how much disk space files are using in a specific directory such as your home directory or mp3 directory, then you might want to try the du command.

The du command will list all the files in a specific directory as well as how much space each of these files and directories is using. The command will also give you a total.

By default the information is listed in bytes, but you can change it to what the man page calls, "human readable" form with the -h flag. This will display information in kilobytes and megabytes (example: 10K is 10 kilobytes and 102M is 102 megabytes).

If you would like to learn more about the du command and its flags try the man pages.

man du
