A Guide to Some Good Affiliate Programs On this page I will list some of the affiliate programs that I use. I am listing the most profitable affiliate programs (for me) first. This does not always mean that they have the biggest commission rate, but that the links convert well. In other words, you may make small commissions per sale, but make up for it in volume. Of course, results of each program are completely dependent on your site, who your audience is, and how you present your affiliate links. What works for me may not work for you, and vice versa - so I will list them all, and you can experiment to see what works best in your case. In the spirit of full disclosure, some (but not all) of the links below may generate income for me if you sign up through them.

Allposters.com This is an excellent affiliate program, it is by far my favorite. The commission rate is great, I make on average around $5.00 per item sold, and during my site's peak season have made over $100 per day. Allposters.com has a HUGE selection of posters, they also have a lot of T-shirts and magnets. You can pick specific items or categories for your website and create rotating product links. Amazon.com The pioneer of affiliate marketing, Amazon.com probably has the largest affiliate program in existence (pure conjecture on my part). This is the first program I joined, and I have generally had good results. The selection of links available to you is very large, and once you get someone to click to Amazon, they are good at selling to them. There are, however, a lot of critics of Amazon Associates. Some of the things about the Amazon program that people do not like are: short cookie durations (in other words, the customer must buy the product very soon after clicking through, or you lose the commission even if they end up buying it a few days later), low commission rates, and they change their terms very frequently. Although some of these things are frustrating at times, I have found that Amazon consistently remains one of my highest converting programs, so I am still a fan. Google Adsense Google Adsense is a an easy, low maintenance way to put ads on your site that are targeted to your viewers. Your commission rate will vary, and is based on clicks and which keywords generated them. So your results can be varied, but I have seen that they can be quite good. I like the adsense ads because they are very easy to customize so that they blend into your page, and they automatically target your audience based on the content of the page they are on. A word of caution, test your links sparingly, if you click on your own ads to often your account could be closed!

eBay You can use generic eBay banners or, if you are an eBay member, you can use the advanced editor kit to show current listings at eBay using key words of your choice. This is a great way to put targeted content on your page. The commissions per sale are usually small, but they can be numerous. You also receive a $12 commission on each active registration you generate. Note: In order to use the Advanced Editor Kit you must have an eBay account and ALSO join the eBay affiliate program offered through Commission Junction (cj.com). Calendars.com & DogBreedStore.com This program is pretty low on my overall income scale, but I think there is potential for the right kind of site to make good sales. The commission rate is good ($1-$5 per sale on average), but I just don't make very many sales. One drawback is that the reports do not give any information on which items are selling. They have a huge selection of calendars and dog breed merchandise... especially if you have a dog related site, or a popular niche site with calendars that are related to your topic, this could be a good program for you.
